A compromised business computer on Boston Road
A business client on Boston Road called after their computer was compromised and became almost unusable. Several Windows services had been shut down, and I didn't want to simply get the computer running again and assume everything was clean.
I reviewed the system and determined the safest approach was to reinstall Windows so we could be confident nothing from the compromise remained. Before doing that, I backed up the data that could safely be preserved. After reinstalling Windows, I restored the remaining files from the client's online backup and confirmed the computer was working properly again.
The entire process took a few hours. The client ended up with a clean, usable computer, their important data restored, and the confidence that we took the time to address the compromise properly instead of just applying a temporary fix.
Getting a client back into a computer after a long time away
Another Wilbraham client up on the mountain hadn't used their computer in quite a while. When they went back to it, they couldn't remember the password and were completely locked out.
I helped them regain access to the computer, then went through the system to make sure everything was still working as it should. Since the computer had been unused for a long time, I also wanted to make sure they weren't getting back into a machine that immediately had other problems waiting for them.
By the time I left, they were back into their computer, everything was working properly, and they were comfortable using it again. They were very happy to have access restored without losing what was already on the computer.
